A deep-celled transplant can help seedlings to quickly get established once they are planted outdoors.
Most seedling plug tray cells are only about two inches deep and less than an inch wide.
This works well for rooting clones and sowing seeds that will be transplanted into plastic pots within a few weeks, but for outdoor growing, bigger is better.
A more developed root system will help the plant to quickly adapt and grow faster.
Production planners need to program a little extra time on the front end if they want to grow a larger transplant, but the wait is definitely worth it.
Another week or so, and the seedling in this photo will be ready to rock.
