The End of Calyces as We Know Them

Did you know that the part of the cannabis flower that is commonly referred to as the calyx (i.e. calyx-to-leaf ratio)is actually a bract?

Don't believe me?

According to cannabis legend Mel Frank, in this facinating article in Cananbis Business Times (, "What are incorrectly called calyxes or false calyxes are correctly identified as bracts. Female cannabis flowers do have calyx cells, but not a defined calyx."

Calling it a calyx is incorrect.

So the next time you emabark on a discussion about calyx-to-leaf ratios replace that term with bract-to-leaf ratio and you'll be the smartest person in the room.
