A new term has been creeping into the cannabis-growing lexicon, and for good reason.

Crop steering is a cultivation method that utilizes seemingly counter-intuitive techniques to maximize a crop’s yield and quality while lowering production costs.

Instead of keeping vegetative and generative (aka flowering) practices separate, crop steering blends these two worlds by sending the plants vegetative “clues” during the generative period, and vice versa.

When done correctly, growers can steer their plants towards desirable production goals such as shorter internodes, larger flowers, and increased terpene production.

In my latest article for Greenhouse Grower magazine, I take a deep dive into crop steering by talking with experts from Aroya, GrowLink, and Cannabidol Consulting.
