In the Blink of an Eye

The secret to strong, healthy seedlings is to provide bright light once the seeds germinate.

Waiting until they emerge can result in leggy plants.

Overnight, young seedlings can break through the soil and begin to stretch for light.

For seedlings that remain in the dark, the difference between leaving the grow site at 5 pm and returning at 7 am the following day can be dramatic.

Young plants can stretch an inch or more in search of light.

This results in a weak plant that needs extra support throughout the remainder of the crop cycle.

Illuminating the crop too late can’t fix this problem.

Although outdated, 4’ fluorescent shop lights always worked well for me since seedlings can grow up into the light (and touch them!) without burning.
